Here is what we’ve been up to in the music room:

PreK – music room expectations, following directions, tapping the beat, vocal explorations, singing songs and doing fingerplays! Ask about the rhyme Chop Chop Chippity Chop!

Kindergarten – music room expectations, following directions, tapping the beat, vocal explorations, and singing songs! Ask about the rhyme Jelly in the Bowl and the song Hot Crossed Buns!

1st grade – music room expectations, tapping the beat, vocal explorations, learning new songs, and determining the difference between beat and clapping the words, and learning about the rhythms ta and titi! Ask about the rhyme Mariposa (butterfly in Spanish) and the song A Sailor went to Sea!

2nd grade – music room expectations, tapping the beat, vocal explorations, learning new songs, learning about our new rhythm ta-a, and singing la, sol and mi! Ask about the rhyme Dinosaur Zoo!

December Update

Hello everyone! We had a wonderful month of music during December.

All students had the opportunity to watch, listen to, discuss, dance to, and read about the story of The Nutcracker. Ask your child what they learned and what their favorite part was.

Throughout the month of December, we will be exploring the ballet The Nutcracker. Ask your child each week what they learned about The Nutcracker.

October 2021 – Vocal Music Update

Hello everyone!

We are so thrilled to be able to all sing together again in the music room. It has been an absolute joy to hear the children’s voices!

Here’s what we’ve been doing in the music room for the month of October:

PreK and K: vocal exploration, matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music. Ask about the apple passing game!

Grade 1: matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music, tapping the beat on pictures related to songs. Ask about the apple passing game!

Grade 2: matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music, reading our new rhythm “musical rest.” Ask about the Pumpkin Man game!

Grade 3: matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music, lines and spaces on the musical staff, singing and reading our new musical notes sol and mi. Ask about the Pumpkin Man game!

Grade 4: matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music, reviewing musical notes do mi sol and la, preparing for our new musical note. Ask about the Pumpkin Man game!

Grade 5: matching pitch, tapping the beat on our bodies while listening to music, reading and speaking the rhythm of split eighth notes, singing a round with two parts, preparing for our new musical rhythm. Ask about the Pumpkin Man game!

Choir: Yippee! Choir has started! We have had two wonderful rehearsals. We are working on learning how to do choral warmups and we have started some of our choir tunes. Ask about what the Swahili word “Jambo” means!

We have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to return to singing!

Vocal explorations help us find the difference between our speaking voice and our head voice. We like following pipe cleaners with our finger and our voice!
